Hundreds of years ago, The Scorch wiped out the bulk of humankind. Fade lives amongst the remnants in the village of Sundar, a haven of lush vegetation, exotic animals, and cutting edge technology. But paradise comes with a price, for in Fade's world, people can transfer their pain with a single touch. And no one is more eager to do so than the Apathetics.
Upon graduation, Fade and her beloved cousin Atticus are granted the most dreaded of jobs. Fade is an Effervescent, assigned to receive nonstop pain from Rayden Armstrong, a rich and spoiled Apathetic man suffering with a rare terminal illness. Her assignment is for two years, or until Rayden dies...if she herself can live that long.
With sickening dread Fade moves into the breathtaking mansion of the Armstrong family. But as she fights to save her cousin's life and take down a society that subjects its people to pain, she slowly learns that not all Apathetics are as coldblooded as they seem...and that friendship, hope, and love can shine in even the darkest of places.
Magic is real. Common sense is optional.
Once upon a time a miserable beast was freed from a curse by true love’s kiss.
Or so you've been told.
What the story leaves out is that Belle abandoned Prince Jarek at the altar on their wedding day—triggering a humiliating return to his beastly form. Determined to speed up his search for a genuine true love, the enchantress adds a new condition to the curse: the Beast must propose to every eligible maiden he encounters. What's worse--if the Beast fails to ask for a woman's hand in marriage after she speaks to him, she dies.
Rather than doom innocent women to an untimely fate, the Beast chooses exile. Centuries pass as he lives in seclusion, avoiding maidens at all costs and stubbornly defying the curse.
Until Calla Rose. When Calla spots a strange man wandering past her home in Enchanted Grove Trailer Park, her Southern manners get the better of her, and she says hello. The odd man responds by asking her to marry him. Naturally, she plays along with the joke.
Except that it’s not a joke. And now Calla is bound to the Beast.
Jump into this romantic romp where princes and castles look an awful lot like rednecks and double-wides, where meddling neighbors and sweet tea run rampant, and where a happily-ever-after might be hiding just down the road in the kingdom of Enchanted Grove Trailer Park.
